The rules in detail
LOTTO 6aus49, the German lotto run by the Deutsche Lotto- und Totoblock, asks for 6 numbers from 1 to 49 on each line, which is called a Tippreihe. A line costs 1.20 EUR, and the state lottery company adds a processing fee for each slip.
The Superzahl is a separate part of the game: one digit from 0 to 9, drawn from its own barrel. Players do not choose it. The last digit of the ticket number is the player's Superzahl.
That explains why the official jackpot odds differ from the table on this page. The top prize, Gewinnklasse 1, needs all 6 numbers and the matching Superzahl, which makes it 1 in 139,838,160. The table counts 6 numbers out of 49, or 13,983,816 combinations, and the ten possible Superzahl digits multiply that by 10. Six correct numbers without the matching Superzahl fall into Gewinnklasse 2.
Draws are held on Wednesday at 18:25 and on Saturday at 19:25, German time.
Chance of matching
| Match | Chance per line |
|---|---|
| 6 of 6 numbers | 1 in 13,983,816 |
| 5 of 6 numbers | 1 in 54,201 |
| 4 of 6 numbers | 1 in 1,032 |
| 3 of 6 numbers | 1 in 56.7 |
| 2 of 6 numbers | 1 in 7.6 |
* The official jackpot needs all 6 numbers plus the Superzahl, a digit from 0 to 9 that is the last digit of your ticket number, so you do not pick it. That is why the jackpot odds are 10 times longer than 6 of 6 in the table.
